OCRIRadio.com:
A tale of two growth strategies and one huge opportunity

Former Entrust executives at Third Brigade and DNA Genotek take different approaches to funding their companies. Plus advice from OCRI's recent trip to China

Ottawa, Jan. 18th, 2006 - OCRI (the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation), in partnership with market2world communications inc., is pleased to announce that the third monthly podcast is now available for download at www.OCRIRadio.com. The podcast features interviews with Third Brigade CTO Brian O'Higgins, DNA Genotek CEO Ian Curry, and OCRI's Economic Partnerships Program Manager, Sandra Mathews.

Brian O'Higgins, a co-founder of Entrust, is now with Third Brigade, which specializes in software that prevents intrusion into host computer systems. With hackers moving out of their bedrooms where they worked for kicks into professional crime syndicates paying big money, Third Brigade has also attracted big money - $19 million - making it the best-funded first-year start-up in Ottawa's history.

At the other end of the funding spectrum is DNA Genotek, led by another Entrust alumnus, Ian Curry. Curry is the CEO of a company that grew a massive 800% in 2005, yet did it with zero venture capital investment - preferring instead to rely on angel investors to sell its DNA collection solutions in more than 50 countries while winning international awards such as the World Economic Forum's "Technology Pioneer 2006".

Rounding out this month's interviews on OCRIRadio.com is a discussion with Sandra Mathews, Program Manager of Economic Partnerships at OCRI. Referencing her recent trip to China, Sandra talks about how to tap into the Chinese market while protecting intellectual property. With the backdrop of approximately $30 billion of bi-lateral trade between China and Canada, Sandra also offers suggestions for local companies to take advantage of Canadian efforts already underway.

There's also the OCRIRadio.com interactive blog, with this month's high tech question: "What does growth mean to you in 2006?"

OCRIRadio.com's host is Jeffrey Dale, President of OCRI. The podcast's co-host is market2world's President Nathan Rudyk. Past guests on OCRIRadio.com include Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer (Ballmer's December 6th Ottawa speech is archived in full at the OCRIRadio.com Web site) John Kelly, Chairman of NexInnovations, and Andrew Waitman, Managing Partner, Celtic House Venture Partners.
