OCRIRadio.com:
The business models that will make VoIP a commercial success

Three of Ottawa's leading Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) experts dive deep to answer the question: "Where's the money?"

Ottawa, Feb. 21st, 2006 - OCRI (the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation), in partnership with market2world communications inc., is pleased to announce that the fourth monthly podcast is now available for download at www.OCRIRadio.com. The podcast features interviews with MKC Networks' COO Dave Brown, Parliant Corp.'s President Kevin Ford, and Johnston and Buchan LLP partner Stephen Whitehead, as well as OCRI Corporate Program's Kim Ramsay.

Dave Brown is Chief Operating Officer of MKC Networks, a Terry Matthews company and the award-winning developer of Enterprise SIP Application Server and Data Communications products. MKC Networks is part of the Internet telephony industry, offering an integrated communications server for voice and data. Dave believes that the monopoly is over for the big carriers, and that the ones who survive will embrace service and adaptability as key differentiators.

Kevin Ford is President and founder of Parliant Corporation, an Ottawa-based Mac telephony company. Kevin's flagship product, PhoneValet, is popular with home and SOHO markets around the world. Kevin believes that infrastructure will determine VoIP adoption over the next few years, with new businesses embracing a wireless environment more quickly than the home and SOHO markets, where an entrenched wired infrastructure already exists.

From a regulation and legislation standpoint, Stephen Whitehead, a partner at the law firm Johnston and Buchan LLP, offers his depth of experience in the realm of communications law to the VoIP conversation. VoIP has hurdles to jump, including expediting 911 calls, and addressing the risk of broadband providers constraining VoIP traffic. But Stephen also points to 'killer apps' such as virtual area code selection that can help push VoIP into the mainstream of business and home use.

Rounding out this month's roster of guests is OCRI Corporate Program's Kim Ramsay, who discusses the upcoming 2006 OCRI Technology Showcase, scheduled for March 23rd at Scotiabank Place. With sponsorship sold out and close to 100 exhibitors and 2500 visitors expected, Kim says it's an indication that Ottawa's tech community is back in a meaningful way.

Appropriately this month's question at the OCRIRadio.com blog site is: "If you could only own ONE of the following as your communications solution, which would it be: Land line? Cell Phone? Computer?"

The host of OCRIRadio.com is Jeffrey Dale, President of OCRI, and his co-host is Nathan Rudyk, President of market2world communications. Past guests on OCRIRadio.com have include Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft , whose December 6th, 2005, Ottawa speech is archived at the OCRIRadio.com Web site. Other guests include Brian O'Higgins, CTO at Third Brigade, Ian Curry, President and CEO at DNA Genotek, and Andrew Waitman, Managing Partner, Celtic House Venture Partners.
