OCRIRadio.com Podcast Profiles Bootstrap CEO Secrets from Triacta Power Technologies and Braebon Medical

Rob Brennan and Don Bradley grow their companies on their own terms without VC money

Ottawa, April 30, 2007 – The vast majority of Ottawa technology entrepreneurs use existing operations, or “bootstrapping” to finance their businesses or reach out to angel investors, family and friends for that critical six or low seven figures that it takes to start a tech company. On the April podcast of OCRIRadio.com, Jeffrey Dale, President and CEO of OCRI, and Nathan Rudyk, President of market2world communications inc. talk to two entrepreneurs about how they are growing their companies on their own terms using sweat equity, sales revenue, strategic investors, SRTC tax credits, IRAP grants, banks loans and careful planning.

The first guest on the April podcast of OCRIRadio.com has a 25-year background in telecom product development. Rob Brennan is the founder, President and CEO of Triacta Power Technologies Inc. Started in 2003, Triacta now has 12 employees and is tackling a billion-dollar market for smart meters that allow residential and commercial tenants to be billed according the hydro they consume. In Ontario alone, it’s estimated there will be two million smart meter installations, and Triacta is one of a handful of manufacturers that can meet the province’s smart meter specifications.

The second guest is Don Bradley. Don is one of the three founders and CTO of Braebon Medical Corp., a company that makes its business helping people get a good night’s sleep. He has over 20 years of experience both as an entrepreneur and as VP R&D in a variety of industries including sleep medicine, human kinetics and exercise physiology. With 30 employees, Braebon Medical has carefully bootstrapped growth of 20-25 per cent per year since its inception in 1998, and is focused on the 200 million dollar market for sleep sensors and diagnostics.

Rudyk and Dale also speak to Kelly Daize, OCRI’s Manager of Cluster Support, about OCRI initiatives underway to help tech entrepreneurs secure early stage financing via bootstrapping, angel investment, and venture exchange listings.

Past guests on OCRIRadio.com include Microsoft Corp. CEO Steve Ballmer; Ventures West President Ted Anderson; and University of Ottawa copyright law Professor and blogger Michael Geist.
