Ottawa, ON, December 18, 2007 – Should tech Ottawa be anxious about its standing compared to “rival” Canadian cities such as Waterloo or Toronto? According to University of Toronto Professor David Wolfe, a national expert on industrial clusters, Ottawa has done a very good job of generating a huge number of start-ups, has an even stronger talent base to drive those firms, and is very optimistic for the city’s technology business prospects.
Wolfe was interviewed at last month’s BioNorth Biotechnology and Life Sciences Conference where OCRIRadio.com co-host Nathan Rudyk also spoke to CEOs from two of those start-ups – ImaSight Inc.’s CEO John Brooks, Vocantas Inc.’s Gary Hannah – as well as XRoads Solutions Group’s Managing Director Ogan Gurel.
- ImaSight is a developer and supplier of innovative digital radiography solutions for human and animal healthcare. The company was founded in 2002 to respond to the need for an all-digital x-ray system that delivered “hospital quality” images at an affordable price for any size healthcare practice.
- Founded in 2003, Vocantas develops interactive voice response systems (IVRSs) and business process automation tools to automate routine telephone communications. Using a combination of advanced computer telephony and speech recognition technologies, the company has developed IVR solutions for healthcare and customer service verticals.
- The XRoads Solutions Group is composed of four groups – Management Consulting, Corporate Rescue, Corporate Finance and Case Management Services – any combination of which can be applied to client benefit. Serving the healthcare sector has been a major focus of XRoads since its inception.
